Felt Case-kudos Martha

This will be the perfect from: Grace, to: Nona gift. Nona is always losing her glasses. Maybe a fun case from Gracio will help her keep track of them.

Protect small electronics and other essentials with cases you can whip up in minutes. Wrap an item such as a camera or a pair of glasses in felt. Measure and add 1 inch to the width and 3/4 inch to the length. Trace the shape using a ruler and a disappearing-ink pen, then cut it out with scalloping scissors. Topstitch along three sides with a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Sock Puppet by Martha

Not as cute as the crayons, but a springboard anyway.

Tools and Materials:
Children's ribbed socks
Card stock or cardboard
Plastic googly eyes
Adhesive, such as Fabri-Tac
Mini feather boa
Pom-pom
Puffy paint

Kids' Sock Puppets How-To:
Insert a piece of card stock into a sock to provide a flat work surface. Using the adhesive, glue two eyes onto the sock. To make the hair, cut a piece of the feather boa and glue it on. Attach a pom-pom for the puppet's nose. Paint on the mouth with puffy paint. Remove the card stock and allow to dry for 24 hours.

Recylced Crayons from Martha

This seems like the perfect make-it Christmas Gift-for the cousins, or friends...too bad I just tossed a BUNCH of old crayons. :(

Heat makes a crayon a little loopy; it may melt into a swirl or pool into a whirl. With this in mind, we chopped up crayons and baked them in shaped mini cake tins, making large blocks that are easy for toddlers to hold and will surely inspire older artists. Encourage kids to come up with combinations: A blue-and-white blend for drawing the sky, for example, and a mix of reds and oranges for sunsets.

Tools and Materials:
Kitchen knife
Old crayons
Mini-cake tins (we used pans with heart- and circle-shaped

Crayon How-To
1. Parents can use the knife to chop crayons into pea-size pieces, taking care to keep colors separate so kids can combine them as they like.

2. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees while children fill the tin with crayon pieces, arranging them in interesting designs.

3. Bake just until the waxes have melted, 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Remove the shapes after they have cooled. If they stick, place tray in the freezer for an hour, and the crayons will pop out.
